FEC Approves Reopening Of UNTH Heart Surgery Unit

The Federal Executive
Council (FEC) has approved
the reintroduction of open
heart surgery in the
University of Nigeria Nsukka
(UNN) teaching hospital
Enugu.
The Minister of Information,
Labaran Maku, who disclosed
this to state house
correspondents after the
council meeting, said
Nigerians no longer have to
go to India and other parts
of world for
surgery. He said the heart
surgery in Enugu will cost
only N500, 000.
The reopening of the heart
surgery is following recent
initiatives by the Minister of
Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu as
well support from Nigerians
in diaspora.
The open heart surgery unit
at the UNN was suspended
ten years ago, following its
movement from an old site
within the Enugu metropolis
to its permanent site at
Ituku-Ozala.
Also the Minister of National
Planning, Shamsudeen Usman
said the parastatal under his ministry has been able to
produce statistics that can
assist the Central Bank of
Nigeria hold monitory policy
as well as data on GDP and
inflation.
On his part, the Minister of
Sports, Bolaji Abdullahi said
that the year 2012 saw the
reorganisation of sports
focusing on transparency,
accountability, and efficiency
as well as guidelines for the
elections into the
federations.
