Federal Government constitutes governing
councils for 21 universities
President Goodluck Jonathan
has approved the
composition and
appointments of the chairmen
and members of the governing councils for some
federal universities, a
statement said.
The statement was issued by
the Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Chief Anyim
Pius Anyim, in Abuja on
Wednesday.
The statement said the
council of Abubakar Tafawa
Balewa University, Bauchi,
had Malam Yahaya Mahamood
as Chairman, while Hajia
Hauwa Bukar, Alhaji Isa
Tafida Mafindi, Chief Mark
Odua, and Dr Chinweokwu
Anyamene-Okeke were
members.
It said Mohammed Dewu
would chair the Governing
Council of Ahmadu Bello
University, Zaria, while Mr
Mike Okiro, Mrs Moremi
Soyinka-Onijala, Suleiman
Lawal Kauru, and Tony
Onyima would serve as
members.
Bayero University, Kano, has
Alhaji Adamu Muazu as the
Chairman, while the members
are Fatima Rasaki, Prof .
Josephine Okpoko, Dr
Yakubu Kwari, and Dr Ahmad
Abubakar.
The Federal University of
Agriculture, Abeokuta, has
Sen. Ogunseye Ogunlewe as
the Chairman, and the
members are Chief Kayode
Akindele, Alhaji Ghali
Na'abba, Prof. Femi
Otunbanjo, and Abba Dasuki
The statement also said that
the Federal University of
Agriculture, Makurdi, council
would be chaired by Chief
Chike Udenze, while Pivlumon
Aminde, Princess Ethel
Eweka, retired Rear Adm.
Peter Ebeleme and Abdul-
Mujib Mumuni were members.
The Federal University of
Technology, Akure has Alhaji
Yarima Abdullahi as Chairman
of council, while Chief Joel
Madaki, Lukman Erogbogbo,
Mr Jelani Mohammed Yauri,
and Benjamin Chijioke Nnaji
are members.
The Governing Council of
Federal University of
Technology, Minna, has Prof.
Ahmed Alkali as Chairman and
Dr Godfrey Imoagene, Ahmed
Tahir, Alhaji Abubakar
Ibrahim Umar, and Prof.
Taoheed Adedoja as
members.
The Federal University of
Technology, Owerri, has Dr
Emmanuel Enemuo as the
Chairman of council, while
Pastor Godwin Akpovie,
Bright Nebedun, Gen. T.
Hananiya, and Amb. C.C.
Agubuzo are members.
The Federal University of
Technology, Yola, council will
be chaired by Sanusi
Munguno, while Dr Adewunmi
Williams, Dr Kaleel Ahamad,
Sen. Abubakar Sodangi, and
Princess Taibat Adeyemi-
Agaba are members
Nnamdi Azikiwe University,
Awka, has retired AVM Larry
Koiyan as Chairman of
council, while Mr John Nwodo,
Mr J. M. Aseh, Buhari Bala,
and Sen. Fidelis Okoro are
members.
University of Abuja
Governing Council is to be
chaired by Dr Samuel
Ogbemudia, while Alhaji Mahe
Dange, Prof. O. Adegbulube,
Aisha Mamuda, and Prof.
Ediga Agbo will serve as
members.
University of Calabar
Governing Council is to be
chaired by Chief Emmanuel
Iwuanyanwu, while Dr Phillips
Salawu, Sulieman Nakowa,
Bassey Ebir Asuquo, and
Chief Mohammed Iluoeju are
members.
The University of Ibadan
has retired Maj.-Gen.
Adeyinka Adebayo as
Chairman of council, while Mr
Lawrence Ekpebu, Sen. Jubril
Doguwa, Mr Samuel Nwatu,
and Dr Anthony Mba are
members.
University of Jos Governing
Council has Chief Don Etiebet
as Chairman, while Mr Tunde
Akogun, Anthony Sani, Alhaji
Adamu Jamfala, and Mrs Uju
Uzoka are members.
University of Maiduguri has
Kashim Imam as the Chairman
of council, while Mr Paul
Attah, Princess Gloria
Frazer, Adamu Waziri, and
Chief Innocent Okparadike
are members.
University of Port Harcourt
Governing Council will be
chaired by Mr Gesi Asamowei,
with Mrs Joyce Bozimo,
Mohammed Iyimoga, Dr
Nelson Olaniyi, and Mr Okey
Ajunwa as members.
Usman Dan Fodio University,
Sokoto, has George
Oshiaphaghor as Chairman of
council, while Hon. Patience
Ogodo, Alhaji Yusuf Yabo,
Kashim Mahmud, and Alhaji
Bello Sokoto will serve as
members.
University of Nigeria,
Nsukka, has Prof. Emeka
Enejere as the Chairman of
council, while Alhaji Salisu
Buhari, Chador Labar,
Harison Onwu, and Chief Akin
Taiwo are members.
University of Ilorin has Prof.
Chukwuma Okonjo as the
Chairman of council, while
Prince Felix Akande, Dr
Abdulrasheed Salam, Dr. S.
Ogbere and Dr Bayo Aluko-
Olokun are members.
University of Uyo council is
to be chaired by Prof. Kimse
Okoko, while Gen. John Gbor,
Alhaji Aliyu Kaulaha, Isiah
Abiola, and Rev. Grace
Ekanem are members.
Federal University of
Petroleum
Resources ,Effurun, Delta,
has Sen. Barigha Amange as
Chairman of council, while Dr
Ngozi Iheduru, Adamu Dari,
Sen. Victor Isa-Oyofo, and
Dr Anthony Eze are members
The statement said each
council would include the
vice-chancellor, deputy
vice-chancellor, one person
from the Federal Ministry of
Education and four persons
appointed by the University
Senate.
According to the statement,
the date for the formal
inauguration of the boards
will be announced in due
course by the Minister of
Education.
